Apparently, the sailor, after returning from World War II, went around kissing every girl he encountered in Time Square. As it happens, this nurse slapped him.

I love this photograph, and I love it about 10,000 times more now that I know that this was some sort of bizarre sekuhara sailor on a rampage. And that the lady had her revenge.
